Powerful piece and beautiful poem! You are both so gifted! I am so impressed that your daughter tried to help that student at her new school! Tremendous courage indeed!!! 👏👏👏💜💜💜
This story about Felicity's courage and compassion really touched my heart. It's a beautiful reminder that even small acts of kindness and noticing can make a huge difference in someone's life. We often get so caught up in our own worlds that we forget to look around and see the people who might be struggling. Felicity's empathy and willingness to reach out is an inspiration to us all.
That's my hope, Alexander. I tend to absorb the emotions of others, and there's so much tension hovering in the world. My goal is to demonstrate that kindness is easy. It doesn't take a lot of time or effort, and the results are usually mutually beneficial.
Wow, Jeannie. Great poem. Felicity is so special and, yes, gutsy. She did the right thing by telling a school adult about that girl. While you say that you weren't as courageous as she is when you were her age, perhaps part of why Felicity is so brave is because of her parents. I admire how you talk with your children and help them lean into their best selves. I'm an artist and writer and find these skills so useful to being a productive, literate member of society. Empathy unfortunately is often lacking in our society; I'm so glad Felicity has an abundance of it!
I wholeheartedly agree, Beth, that empathy is lacking in our society. It saddens me to see that. But I also have hope that, one at a time, each of us can be small pockets of light in the world. Felicity is definitely one of those people. Seems you are, too.
Oh my goodness Jeannie I wish I could be with you in person to give you a “heart to heart” hug! That’s left side to left side and seems to generate a different exchange of energy. I’ve just finished listening to Jonathan Haidt’s book “The Anxious Generation” which I initially found pretty disturbing but toward the end he presents options to be considered for our upcoming generations. It seems you’ve been ahead of the curve! Felicity’s story is so powerful and I hope you recognize that your courage has obviously influenced her own. Sometimes I find myself feeling disillusioned by all I see and hear - this beautiful daughter of your’s appears to be one of those “apples that doesn’t fall far from the tree. So, I want to pass along my admiration and a virtual hug to both of you.🥰💫🌈
Thank you, Marilyn! I am a huge fan of Jonathan Haidt, so I will check out his book. I just read a book last month that quoted him regarding the Alpha generation's influence from social media and how it's negatively affecting their social development. He articulated this so clearly that I wrote the excerpt into my notebook of notes.
This is so beautiful because of the way you are raising your children someone's life has been changed. The girl who was self harming was likely saved by your daughter. Our society sadly dismisses obvious signs of despair in young people. I wish more people were brave enough as your daughter was to speak up regardless of discomfort. Thank you for raising such ae empathetic soul. This is what our world needs more of. 💗
Your daughter is wise beyond her years. Her mature emotional intelligence and courage will take her far in life. At her age, it's unusual to be so open, brave and caring because unfortunately... being a silent follower is the new, unfortunate norm. I applaud Felicity and I hope she hears how the young adults and adults view what she's done instead of her peers who are likely more concerned with being a sheep vs a leader. Sending so much love to you and your beautiful daughter. ❤️
What a beautiful compliment, Michelle. I think Felicity's natural sensitivity and perception of others' feelings contributes to her ability to go against the crowd. We are proud of and humbled by her.
Thank you for sharing about your daughter and for sharing her compassionate act of bravery and her poetry! Every part of this post touched me deeply. Kudos to you for supporting her in her natural personality and talents. I would have loved you as a mother as a sensitive child myself

Thanks, Rebecca. She is a shining light for sure.
Wow, such a powerful piece. And so very thankful your daughter is who she is. We do indeed need more people with the courage to help others.
Thanks, Sarah! I agree.
Lovely poem. Enjoyed it. Impressive for her age. Keep it up Felicity!
Thank you. I will relay that to her! She has been reading many of the comments on her poem.

I was just reminded of Ghandi's statement - "Be the change you want to see in the world". Funny how these moments present ideas that never get old!
Yes! I love it.

I will tell Felicity you said that, Michelle. It will truly mean the world to her, as she's struggling right now. Thank you so much.

Wow Felicity is a light in this world, and a testament to your beautiful heart, Jeannie.
Thank you, Tiffany. She's a pretty special kid.

Your comment touches me deeply, Shawn. Thank you.
Thank you, Anna. I will tell Felicity you said so!
Tell her I was moved to tears by it
I certainly will, Shawn.
